The default, and the honest minimum for whole-body work. Sixty minutes covers back, shoulders, neck, arms and legs without the therapist hurrying. It is also where the per-minute rate drops sharply, to $1.08 for relaxation and $1.17 for deep tissue.

The 90-minute massage — $100 or $110

Ninety minutes is a full body hour plus a half-hour of focus somewhere specific — usually hips, feet or the one shoulder that has been complaining since Tuesday. Lomi Lomi is $110 at this length and the combo is $100. Per minute it works out at $1.11 — three cents above the hourly rate, which is as close to nothing as pricing gets.

The 2-hour massage — $130 or $140

Two hours is the only booking where nothing has to be left out. Relaxation is $130, deep tissue $140, Lomi Lomi $140. The per-minute rate — $1.08 and $1.17 — is exactly the same as the hour, so the second hour is sold at the ordinary price rather than a premium.

Is a longer session actually worth it?

Do the division before you decide, because the arithmetic here is unusual and it is in your favour. On this menu the per-minute rate is essentially flat once you pass the first hour:

• 30 minutes — $1.67 a minute. The premium you pay for a short, targeted booking.
• 60 minutes — $1.08 relaxation, $1.17 deep tissue.
• 90 minutes — $1.11 and $1.22. Three cents a minute above the hour for relaxation, five for deep tissue.
• 120 minutes — $1.08 and $1.17. Identical to the hour.
• 60-minute combo — $1.00 a minute at $60, the lowest rate we publish.

Couples massage is $120 for both guests for a Swedish hour and $130 for both for deep tissue — currently $10 below the usual $130 and $140. Per person that is $60 and $65, which is $5 less each than the same hour booked alone, with two therapists working at the same time on two side-by-side tables. Book two appointments, one per guest, same date and time.

The body-and-foot combo stays the local favourite at $60 for 60 minutes (40 on the table, 20 on the feet) or $100 for 90 (60 and 30).
